'Moving and playful, Rhyming Boy is simply told yet manages to explore truth, friendship, disappointment, and The Guinness Book of Records, all in one go. A great read for eight and up. Sunday Age
'The most gorgeous book I’ve read in a long time, Rhyming Boy starts with the brilliant chapter ‘The street of silly names’ and never lets up in any way. Rhyming Boy is packed with beautiful, fully-developed characters who make the reader laugh and cry. Herrick‘s use of words, rhythm and linguistic tricks makes this story absorbing on many levels. This book is worth every cent and I would highly recommend it for any reader but it would most suit the 8-12 year range. This is a special book that you should mark down as a ‘must read’. Buzz Words
‘This is a fun read, full of gentle, teasing humour. It is a well paced, interesting and quite moving story with many funny and quirky characters. I would highly recommend it to 12 to 16 year olds, both girls and boys.’ Reading Time
'The characters are deep, endearing and warm. In parts, this tale is laugh-out-loud funny and always a snicker is never far off. This novel will be broadly liked and widely read. Readers will finish it with a smile and a new appreciation for the humble dictionary.' Courier Mail
'Rhyming Boy has Steven's usual sense of fun, humour and sensitive writing beautifully woven throughout this book.' Pass it On
